What Happens to Your Input?
Every comment submitted during a formal comment period becomes part of the official project record. During scoping, the FAA reviews public and agency comments to help determine which environmental resources, geographic areas, issues, and alternatives the EIS should examine. Comments that describe specific, local experiences and concerns, are especially helpful in shaping the analysis.
After the Draft EIS is published, comments received during the public comment period will be considered in preparing the Final EIS. The FAA will review and respond to substantive comments in the Final EIS. Public input helps the FAA make a fully informed decision.
How to Participate
There are two formal opportunities to comment during the EIS process.
1
The first is the scoping period, which begins when the FAA publishes the Notice of Intent (NOI) in the Federal Register, anticipated to occur in early 2027. During scoping, you can tell the FAA which issues, locations, and concerns you want the EIS to examine. Public scoping meetings will be held approximately 30 days after the NOI is published and will be announced in advance.
2
The second formal opportunity to comment is during the Draft EIS public comment period, which will occur approximately a year after the NOI is released. The Draft EIS will present the full analysis of potential environmental impacts and proposed mitigation and will be available for public review and comment for at least 45 days. Public meetings will be held during the comment period, and the FAA will respond to substantive comments in the Final EIS.
