SAT Airfield Safety Enhancement & Improvements Program:
Environmental Impact Statement(EIS)
San Antonio International Airport (SAT) is evaluating improvements to its airfield through the Airfield Safety Enhancement and Improvements Program (ASEIP).
The City of San Antonio (City), Aviation Department, is proposing to construct these improvements, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is conducting an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to evaluate potential environmental effects, compare alternatives, and gather public input before a decision is made.
Background
The City initiated an Environmental Assessment (EA) evaluating the Proposed Project in 2024. During the EA, analysis identified potential environmental effects that would exceed FAA thresholds of significance for select environmental resource categories, requiring the preparation of an EIS.
The FAA is the lead federal agency under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and is initiating the preparation of an EIS in accordance with various FAA orders.
Previous studies and EA analyses will be reviewed, verified, and updated as needed, and the EIS will incorporate current FAA guidance and updated aviation forecasts.
